Tecno Camon X: Unboxing and First Impressions

On the 5th of April 2018. Tecno Mobile officially announced the Tecno Camon X and 4 other smartphones in a global launch held in Lagos Nigeria.

Even though not a continuation of the Camon CX, the Tecno Camon X is still the latest addition into the Tecno Camon family.

Let us look inside the box of a Camon X.

The box

A black slide-out box is housing the Camon X and its many components.

Accessories

Inside the box, there is a unit of the Camon X cradled atop a box containing the other accessories.

Except for a plastic casing, all the other accessories are the regular.

Physical features

The power button, volume rockers and SIM tray are on the right side of the Tecno Camon X

This has ensured there is no button or feature on the left side of the phone.

SIM tray has two slots for Nano SIM cards and an extra for a memory card

The Camon X’s speaker grilles, USB port, microphone and earphone jack are all lined up in this order underneath. 

Top front, its 24 MP secondary camera is followed by speaker slits and flash. 

Then there’s the 16 MP primary camera and flash at the back, adjacent to a fingerprint scanner.

Price

Rumours say ₦58,900, but there is no official price as it is not yet on sale. Our price projections for the Tecno Camon X is somewhere between ₦60,000 to ₦70,000. Until it is available, buyers can however pre-order it on Slot for ₦2,000.

First impressions

There is surely a lot of hype around the Tecno Camon X and from what I see, it is not disappointing on many physical ends.

I liked holding the phone; it felt right to touch. The sleek lightweight design and marvelous cameras Tecno promised us are any smartphone user’s dream.

But a few days of review will reveal how well these stacked specs play out in real world use cases. Until then, the Tecno Camon X looks like an excitingly good deal from what I see.
